Estados Unidos y España tienen una historia en común que no muchos conocen. Lo peor es que quiénes creen conocerla a menudo están imbuidos de prejuicios y tópicos negrolegendarios que falsean lo que realmente ocurrió.
Con la revista monográfica que usted puede descargar aquí, la Asociación Cultural Héroes de Cavite pretende resumir los múltiples aspectos de esa historia, pero ciñéndose a la realidad de los hechos y tratando de explicarlos de una forma objetiva, clara y concisa.
Nuestra misión es estimular la curiosidad del lector e incitarle a querer saber más. Para ello hemos contado con la colaboración desinteresada de numerosos especialistas de diversas disciplinas. Para llegar mejor a nuestro público, los textos están en español e inglés.

The United States and Spain have a common history that not many people know. To make things worse, those who think they know it are often biased with prejudices and Black Legend clichés that falsify what really happened.
With the monographic magazine that you can download here, Asociación Cultural Héroes de Cavite aims to summarise the many aspects of this history, but sticking to the reality of the facts and trying to explain them in an objective, clear, and concise way.
Our aim is to stimulate the reader’s curiosity and incite them to find out more. To this end, we have relied on the disinterested collaboration of numerous specialists from different disciplines. In order to better reach our target audience, the texts are in Spanish and English.

El español es la cuarta lengua más hablada del mundo, tras el inglés, el chino y el hindi. Por el número de personas que la tienen como lengua madre -casi 500 millones en 2022 1 - es la segunda, solo por detrás del chino. La comunidad hispanohablante se caracteriza por su mestizaje y por compartir muchos aspectos culturales. Esto, junto a su crecimiento demográfico, ofrece una oportunidad de estrechar lazos entre sus integrantes y favorecer la actividad económica. Un mayor uso del idioma español en los EEUU supone una oportunidad para quien es bilingüe y también una ayuda para que una parte de los norteamericanos conozcan más de los orígenes de su país y entiendan mejor al resto del continente.
España, que fue el origen de esta gran comunidad, sufre una Leyenda Negra repleta de falsedades injuriosas, resultado de la manipulación, distorsión y divulgación tergiversada de su historia por los que fueron sus enemigos en siglos pasados. Lo más grave es que muchos españoles e hispanoamericanos han asimilado como cierta esa leyenda, creyéndola. Su vigencia nos destruye la autoestima, provocando que olvidemos nuestras raíces y nos mantengamos divididos. Pero la Historia de España, de los hispanos, es la que es, no la que escribieron desde el siglo XVI otras naciones.
En 2020, se creó la Asociación Cultural Héroes de Cavite en la que apostamos decididamente por la Hispanidad y por divulgar la historia compartida, desmontando tópicos negrolegendarios, sacando a la luz la realidad de los hechos y creando puentes de hermanamiento cultural y económico. Para entender nuestro devenir histórico, antes tenemos que conocerlo. Esta revista que tiene usted delante intenta ayudar a ello. Le contamos escuetamente muchas cosas, a menudo mal conocidas por una mayoría de los hispanos de ambos hemisferios 2. Esperamos que le resulten de interés y utilidad.
Creemos que juntos hacemos a la Hispanidad más fuerte. Como dijo un historiador, luchamos por el pasado para construir el presente y ganar el futuro.

2 La Constitución de Cádiz (1812) en su Artículo 1 decía que La Nación Española es la reunión de todos los Españoles de ambos hemisferios. El Artículo 5 consideraba españoles a Todos los hombres libres nacidos y avecindados en los dominios de las Españas, y los hijos de estos.

Spanish is the fourth most spoken language in the world, after English, Chinese and Hindi. It ranks second, only below Chinese, based on the number of native speakers—almost 500 million in 2022.1 The Spanish-speaking community is characterized by being a mixed-race group and by sharing many cultural aspects. Considering its demographic growth, Spanish then offers it an opportunity to strengthen ties between its members and to stimulate economic activity. A greater use of the Spanish language in the United States would entail an opportunity for bilingual people and would also help a portion of the American people to know more about the origins of their country and to better understand the rest of the continent.
Spain, the origin of this great community, endures a Black Legend packed with insulting falsehoods, which are the result of the manipulation, distortion and twisted spreading of its history by its former enemies in past centuries. The worst part is that many Spaniards and Hispanic Americans have assimilated that legend as true, believing it. It remains in operation, destroying our self-esteem, causing us to forget our roots and remain divided. But the History of Spain, of Hispanics, is as it actually is, not as other nations have written about it since the sixteenth century.
The Asociación Cultural Héroes de Cavite [Héroes de Cavite Cultural Association] was created in 2020. In it, we pledged our firm commitment to the Hispanic world and to spreading its shared history, dismantling Black Legend canards, bringing the real facts to light and building bridges of cultural and economic unity. To understand our historical path, we must first get to know it. This magazine you have before you tries to contribute to that. We succinctly tell you many things, often poorly known to a majority of Hispanics in both hemispheres. 2 We hope you find them interesting and useful.
We believe that together we make the Hispanic world stronger. As one historian said, we fight for the past to build the present and conquer the future.
